How much can you accomplish with 3% of your time?
If you’re Elon Musk, you serve as CEO of a neurotechnology company called Nuralink
That’s right, Elon Musk spends 90% of his time on SpaceX and Tesla, about 2% on The Boring Company, and 3-5% on Nuralink.
Neuralink was founded in July 2016 by Musk and eight others and is headquartered out of San Francisco.
On August 24, 2017 Neuralink filed a Form D to the Securities Exchange Commission or SEC to disclose the funds that they have raised.
Privately held companies that raise capital are required to file a Form D with the SEC.
Let’s take a quick look, here is the Form D, and it shows that Neuralink raised close to $27 million.
What will that money be used for?
In the short term, Neuralink is aiming to bring to the market a product that helps with severe brain injuries due to stroke, cancer lesion, etc.
And they hope to accomplish this in about four years.
But Neuralink wants to do something FAR… more… fascinating.
At this point of the video, there is no turning back, you take the blue pill, the journey ends, you stop the video and believe whatever ever you want to believe.
You take the Red pill, you stay in wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
…Alright, follow me.
Neuralink aims to create a device that can be implanted in the human brain, so that people can merge with software and keep pace with advancements in artificial intelligence, the devise will improve memory and allow direct interfacing with computing devices.
Tim Urban from Wait But Why.com wrote an awesome post about Neuralink.
According to Urban, the device will be so integrated in your brain, you will feel like it is a part of you.
You will be connected to the cloud, with your computers, and other brains with the device.
Here is an interview with Musk at the 2016 Code Conference.
Let’s quickly recap what we might see in the distant future with Neuralink.
Neuralink hopes to build a neural lace, which will be a digital layer of your brain and work with your cerebral cortex.
Musk believes we eventually become so far below AI in intelligence that we will be like a pet, like a house cat, and on top of that, he believes this would be the best-case scenario.
He points out that our major weakness is our information output, we have loads of information in our brains but we communicate the information slowly.
