A lot of people do not know where to begin when it comes to deeper analysis of sports which is what you need to be able to do in order to have a chance to be successful at betting on sports. Microsoft Excel is a great program for beginners and advanced analysts alike to be able to crunch numbers and deeply analyze the stats.
This video series is about teaching people how to analyze sports with Excel from the ground up. The 5th video in this series is the last of the "core" videos for this series and discusses what we have been building to, using our processed data to make predictions with, and with these predictions we can attempt to make educated wagers. I go through a simple technique via a basic power ranking, as well as a bit more complex yet still simple technique via 3 stats and calculating expectation. Finally I use a free program called Orange3 to do a basic linear regression make forecasts. These methods I use are all starting points to help you craft more complex models that can be measured against. All you need is something to measure against and from there you can calibrate if needed.
While the sport I am using for this series is NBA the purpose of this video isn't so much as how to analyze basketball as it is teaching the concepts of how to use Excel at a more advanced level for analyzing sports.
